"Tradition" is defined as "the handing down of a belief, legend, or custom from generation to generation." The SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS, a 42-year tradition, are a true living definition of the word. As the headliners of the Original Coors Beach Party, the SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS bring their high energy party style performance to the delight of audiences of all ages. Their act, as well as their music, is indeed timeless. The eight member group is led by John McElrath, founder of the original band. Today's SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS features a five piece horn section and effectively blends the sounds and music of yesterday and today. Their diverse song list has made them overwhelmingly popular with college audiences as well as mature rock and rollers throughout the Southeast. The band became famous in 1966 with the release of their one million seller, "Double Shot of My Baby's Love", which remains the signature song of the group today. The song, in fact, demonstrated its own timeless popularity as the cast of the hit television show Ally McBeal sang along with the original SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS recording in an October 1998 episode. Bruce Springsteen labeled it "the greatest fraternity rock song of all time". "Double Shot" was followed by Top 40 hits, "She Drives Me Out of My Mind" and "Hey, Hey Baby". Although membership of the group changed over the years, the popularity of their show did not. They became known in the talent industry as "THE PARTY BAND OF THE SOUTH". A tag that the group now proudly advertises. In 1993 the nationally syndicated columnist Lewis Grizzard wrote, "Even today when I hear the SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS sing Double Shot of My Baby's Love, it makes me want to stand outside in the hot sun with a milkshake cup full of beer in one hand and a slightly drenched coed in the other". The SWINGIN' MEDALLIONS are YESTERDAY and TODAY! Even in the new millennium, they continue their own timeless tradition. They are a true Southern Institution!
